Product description

SWIRScontrol (sachets) to control white fly and thrips

Amblyseius swirskii
SWIRScontrol contains the predatory mite Amblyseius swirskii. This cream-coloured predatory mite prefers the non-mobile stages of whitefly, thrips larvae and spider mite. In addition to thrips and whitefly, this mite can also develop on plant food such as pollen and plant juices and will therefore easily establish itself in the crop. Swirskii originates from the Mediterranean region, which explains its good performance in warm and humid climatic conditions.

The appearance of A. swirskii can hardly be distinguished with the naked eye from A. cucumeris or A. californicus. The predatory mite has no diapause but is often not active enough in winter for regular crops. The optimal development temperature is between 25°C and 28°C, and the predatory mite even remains active up to temperatures of 40°C. Under these conditions, its entire life cycle will be completed. Under these conditions, its total life cycle takes about five to six days and females lay on average two eggs a day. Below 15°C, its reproduction rate drops sharply. Temperature and light are important for the development of this predatory mite. A. swirskii can therefore be introduced from March to September.

SWIRScontrol should be used at an early stage of pest development. The predatory mite can be used in many different crops where thrips and whitefly occur. A. swirkskii is mainly found in the top of the crop where the pests are.

Quality control
At Royal Brinkman a team of specialists checks the quality of beneficial insects, mites and nematodes. They work according to a protocol to deliver the best quality to the customers.

SWIRScontrol is supplied in packs of 500 breeding bags (each bag has a minimum quantity of 250 predatory mites). The contents of a breeding sachet consist of various stages of Swirskii predatory mites, feeder mites and carrier substance (bran). Bags ultimately produce the largest number of predatory mites and can be used preventatively. The production of Amblyseius swirskii takes place continuously in the sachets. The special formulation in the sachet ensures that the right number of predatory mites leave the sachet each week and enter the crop. The breeding bag is provided with a hole on both sides so that the predatory mites can leave directly. A hanging hook makes it easy to place the breeding bags in the crop.

SWIRScontrol is also available as a TURBO formulation: 500 breeding bags TURBO (minimum result of 250 predatory mites per bag). Due to a different formulation, the predatory mites will leave the sachet more quickly and enter the crop.

SWIRScontrol is also available in mini bags without hooks as 500 breeding bags (minimum result 250 predatory mites per bag). Depending on the type of crop, this method of packaging is chosen. This way a better distribution of predatory mites on the crop can be achieved.

Besides sachets, Amblyseius swirskii is available as loose material in tubes of 50,000 (1 litre) and 125,000 (5 litres) predatory mites.

Instructions for use
Keep the product cool until use. Allow the product to reach (greenhouse) temperature gradually. Avoid too rapid an increase in temperature, as this can lead to a temperature shock for the predatory mites. Open the box with the bags in the crop. Tear the bags apart along the perforations. Distribute the breeding bags as evenly as possible over the crop. Hang the bags in a place sheltered from the sun. Avoid contact with heating pipes and CO2 pipes. The extent of use always depends on the pest pressure in the crop, so ask the product specialist for the correct dosage.

Storage and transport
Check the product on receipt for deviations and report any complaints or comments within 24 hours. Use the product preferably immediately. If storage is required, the product should be stored horizontally and in the dark in a ventilated area at a temperature of 15-18°C and a humidity of 70-80% for a maximum of 24 hours. When the product is stored longer and/or under different conditions, Royal Brinkman is not responsible for loss of quality.
