Product description

Orius laevigatus
The product ORIcontrol contains predatory bugs of the specie Orius laevigatus. These predatory bugs have been proven to be very effective on thrips. Orius populations  can grow very rapidly in vegetable crops containing pollen. In addition to the thrips (both adults and larvae), the predatory bugs also eats red spider mite and moth eggs. An orius female lays around 1 to 3 eggs per day on a leaf or stem parts. After about 5 days, an Orius nymph will come out from the egg.

The yellow-brown Orius-nymphs have distinctive red eyes. They cannot fly yet and have to find their food while running. Orius are mainly found in the flowers and on the leaf of the plant. The total development duration from egg to mature will take about 3 weeks at 25 °C, at low temperatures this will take longer. The black-coloured adult predatory bugs have fully developed wings which makes them very mobile.

For many years, Orius has been used to control thrips in various vegetable cultivations, such as peppers and eggplants. Also in ornamental fields, where thrips are difficult to control, the predatory bugs are increasingly used.

Packaging
ORIcontrol L (Orius laevigatus) is supplied in 250 ml bottles, with buckwheat as a carrier material. The buckwheat hulls ensure optimal moisture management during transport and storage of the predatory bugs. ORIcontrol L is available in packs of 500 or 1,000 adult bugs. In addition, a package with 2,000 nymphs is available (the nymphs are advised for spider mite control).

In addition to the ORIcontrol L, we also have MAJUScontrol (Orius majusculus) available in 250 ml bottles. MAJUScontrol is available in a package of 500 individuals. O. laevigatus and O. majusculus differ in body size and living environment on the plant. Orius majusculus is more located on the leaf and Orius laevigates more in the flower of the plant. For different crops, there are various possibilities.
